        SENATOR JUBELIRER, RULES AND EXECUTIVE NOMINATIONS, IN SENATE,
           AS AMENDED, OCTOBER 27, 1981

                          In the House of Representatives, June 15, 1981

     1     WHEREAS, Americans have traditionally recognized the family
     2  as the most important institution in our society for
     3  strengthening and perpetuating the values and freedom which
     4  characterize the United States of America; and
     5     WHEREAS, The family is the primary social unit for developing
     6  a sense of morality, a work ethic and for fostering the
     7  qualities of responsibility, discipline and cooperation which
     8  are essential to the vitality of our way of life; and
     9     WHEREAS, The family unit has proven itself to be the most
    10  effective and most desirable method of providing children with
    11  care, training and love; and
    12     WHEREAS, The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, through a
    13  proclamation of the Governor, accorded official recognition to
    14  the importance of the family last year by designating the week
    15  of November 23, 1980, through November 29, 1980, as "Family
    16  Week"; and

     1     WHEREAS, It is likely DESIRABLE that the Commonwealth of       <--
     2  Pennsylvania, through the Governor, will give official
     3  recognition to the family again this year; and
     4     WHEREAS, The contributions of the family to the strength of
     5  our Nation are entitled to National recognition and
     6  appreciation; therefore be it
     7     RESOLVED (the Senate concurring), That the General Assembly
     8  memorialize the Congress of the United States to designate a
     9  day, to be known as "Family Day," to be celebrated annually for
    10  the purpose of honoring the contributions made by the family to
    11  the strength and vitality of the United States; and be it
    12  further
    13     RESOLVED, THAT THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES AND THE      <--
    14  GOVERNOR OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA ARE HEREBY
    15  REQUESTED TO ISSUE PROCLAMATIONS DESIGNATING A PERIOD OF TIME IN
    16  1981 FOR THE PURPOSE OF HONORING THE CONTRIBUTIONS MADE BY THE
    17  FAMILY; AND BE IT FURTHER
    18     RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to
    19  the President of the United States, THE GOVERNOR OF THE           <--
    20  COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA, the presiding officers of the
    21  United States Senate and the United States House of
    22  Representatives, and to each Senator and Representative in the
    23  United States Congress from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
