In the House of Representatives, April 27, 1981 1 WHEREAS, The holocaust was the systematic, bureaucratic 2 extermination of more than 10,000,000 people living in Europe 3 including 6,000,000 Jews by the Nazis and their collaborators as 4 a dominant act of the state during World War II in order to 5 attain their goal of world supremacy; and 6 WHEREAS, The holocaust was a crime unique in the annals of 7 human history, different not only in the quantity of violence, 8 but in its manner and purpose as a mass criminal enterprise 9 organized by the state against defenseless civilians; and 10 WHEREAS, This genocide had been unprecedented in human 11 history and masked an all-pervasive government policy unaffected 12 by territorial or economic advantage and unchecked by moral or 13 religious constraints; and 14 WHEREAS, There exists a moral imperative to remember the
1 holocaust, necessary to protect against the evil of 2 indifference, so history will not be repeated; therefore be it 3 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of Pennsylvania 4 designates May 1, 1981 to commemorate the holocaust and to 5 underscore the need for continuing vigilance of our institutions 6 and ourselves, so evil can be overcome, humanity is protected 7 and democracy is strengthened by the rule of morality and law.
