AN ACT 1 Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated 2 Statutes, further providing for the maximum income of retired 3 persons in order to be eligible for exemption from 4 registration fees. 5 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 6 hereby enacts as follows: 7 Section 1. Clause (16) of subsection (c) of section 1901 of 8 Title 75, act of November 25, 1970 (P.L.707, No.230), known as 9 the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, is amended to read: 10 § 1901. Exemption of entities and vehicles from fees. 11 * * * 12 (c) Processing fee in lieu of registration fee.--No 13 registration fee shall be charged for vehicles registered by any 14 of the following but the department shall charge a fee of $10 to 15 cover the costs of processing for issuing or renewing the 16 registration: 17 * * *
1 (16) Any person who is retired and receiving social
2 security or other pension and whose total income does not
3 exceed [$7,500] $12,000 per year. Unless the retired person
4 is physically or mentally incapable of driving the vehicle,
5 the retired person shall be the principal driver of the
6 vehicle but may from time to time authorize another person to
7 drive the vehicle in his or her stead.

9 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
