                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
     2     act relating to the public school system, including certain
     3     provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
     4     schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
     5     laws relating thereto," further providing for public school
     6     health services.

     7     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     8  hereby enacts as follows:
     9     Section 1.  Subsection (a) of section 1402, act of March 10,
    10  1949 (P.L.30, No.14), known as the "Public School Code of 1949,"
    11  amended August 9, 1963 (P.L.642, No.340), is amended to read:
    12     Section 1402.  Health Services.--(a) Each child [of school
    13  age] entering school shall be given by methods established by
    14  the Advisory Health Board, (1) a vision test by a certified
    15  school nurse, medical technician or teacher, (2) a hearing test
    16  by a certified school nurse or medical technician, (3) a
    17  measurement of height and weight by a certified school nurse or
    18  teacher, (4) tests for tuberculosis under medical supervision,
    19  [and] (5) such other tests as the Advisory Health Board may deem


     1  advisable to protect the health of the child, and (6) a test for
     2  sickle cell anemia and Tay-Sach's disease. [Vision tests shall
     3  be given at least annually and other tests at intervals
     4  established by the Advisory Health Board.]

     6     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
