                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of January 25, 1966 (1965 P.L.1546, No.541),
     2     entitled "An act providing scholarships and providing funds
     3     to secure Federal funds for qualified students of the
     4     Commonwealth of Pennsylvania who need financial assistance to
     5     attend postsecondary institutions of higher learning, making
     6     an appropriation, and providing for the administration of
     7     this act," further providing for grants to certain part-time
     8     students.

     9     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    10  hereby enacts as follows:
    11     Section 1.  Clause (4) of subsection (a) of section 4, act of
    12  January 25, 1966 (1965 P.L.1546, No.541), entitled "An act
    13  providing scholarships and providing funds to secure Federal
    14  funds for qualified students of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    15  who need financial assistance to attend postsecondary
    16  institutions of higher learning, making an appropriation, and
    17  providing for the administration of this act," amended December
    18  18, 1969 (P.L.383, No.169), is amended and a subsection is added
    19  to read:
    20     Section 4.  (a) Any student is eligible for consideration for

     1  a State scholarship providing:

     3     (4)  [He] Except as provided in subsection (e), the student
     4  is enrolled, or will be enrolled in the fall semester
     5  immediately following his secondary school graduation or his
     6  date of application, as a full-time student at an institution of
     7  higher learning: Provided, however, That failure to enroll in
     8  the fall semester immediately following secondary school
     9  graduation shall not render ineligible a student who entered
    10  service in the military forces of the United States, the Peace
    11  Corps or Volunteers in Service to America, during the fall
    12  semester immediately following his secondary school graduation;

    14     (e)  For purposes of awarding grants the agency shall not
    15  distinguish between full-time students and part-time students if
    16  the number of course credits per calendar year completed by
    17  part-time students is equal to or more than the minimum number
    18  of course credits required of full-time students per academic
    19  year insofar as it entitles each person to receive up to the
    20  maximum amount in grants per academic year.
    21     Section 2.  This act shall take effect immediately.
