        INTRODUCED BY PHILLIPS (BY REQUEST), APRIL 22, 1981

        REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON STATE GOVERNMENT, APRIL 22, 1981

                                     AN ACT

     1 Declaring and adopting the song "Pennsylvania," by Mary E. H.
     2 Stark, as the State song of the Commonwealth.

     3 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     4  hereby enacts as follows:
     5 Section 1. The song "Pennsylvania," the words and music by
     6 Mary E. H. Stark, is hereby adopted as the State song of
     7 Pennsylvania and shall be the official song for all public
     8 purposes. The words of the song are as follows:
     9 First verse: Hail to you dear State we love,
    10                     Duly blessed by Him above;
    11 Crystal lakes and rivers flow,
    12 Penn's homeland of long ago.
    13 Second verse: Patriots through war and toil
    14                     Laid the keystone to your soil;
    15 Shrine of heroes, now and then,
    16 Proclaimed afar by word and pen.
    17 Third verse: Ruffed grouse fly and whitetail roam,

     1                     The hemlock forests are their home;
     2 Brook trout swim the mountain streams,
     3 Fireflies cast their mystic beams.
     4 Fourth verse: On your plain the laurel grow,
     5                     First your liberty to know;
     6                     Independence, virtue, too,
     7 Eternal in your banner blue.
     8     Chorus:         Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania,
     9                     The pride of pioneers;
    10 Their legacy, a country free,
    11 Endures on through the years.
    12 Section 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
