AN ACT
1 Amending the act of June 24, 1931 (P.L.1206, No.331), entitled
2 "An act concerning townships of the first class; amending,
3 revising, consolidating, and changing the law relating
4 thereto," extending insurance to elected officers.
5 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
6 hereby enacts as follows:
7 Section 1. Clause LXIII of section 1502, act of June 24,
8 1931 (P.L.1206, No.331), known as "The First Class Township
9 Code," reenacted and amended May 27, 1949 (P.L.1955, No.569) and
10 added August 18, 1967 (P.L.244, No.96), is amended to read:
11 Section 1502. The corporate power of a township of the first
12 class shall be vested in the board of township commissioners.
13 The board shall have power--

15 LXIII. Insurance. To expend out of the general township fund
16 such amount as may be necessary to secure workmen's compensation
17 insurance for its elected officers and employes, including
18 volunteer firemen of companies duly recognized by the township
1 by motion or resolution killed or injured while going to, 2 returning from or attending fires, or while performing any other 3 duties authorized by the township; to make contracts of 4 insurance with any fire insurance company, duly authorized by 5 law to transact business in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, on 6 any building or property owned by such township, to make 7 contracts with any insurance company, so authorized, insuring 8 any public liability of the township, and to make contracts of 9 insurance with any insurance company, or nonprofit 10 hospitalization corporation, or nonprofit medical service 11 corporation, authorized to transact business within the 12 Commonwealth, insuring its elected officers and employes, or any 13 class or classes thereof, or their dependents, under a policy or 14 policies of group insurance covering life, health, 15 hospitalization, medical and surgical service, or accident 16 insurance, and may contract with any such company, granting 17 annuities or pensions, for the pensioning of such employes, or 18 any class or classes thereof, and for such purposes, may agree 19 to pay part or all of the premiums or charges for carrying such 20 contracts, premiums, or charges, or portions thereof. The 21 commissioners are hereby authorized, enabled and permitted to 22 deduct from the elected officers and employe's pay, salary or 23 compensation such part of the premium or charge, as is payable 24 by the elected officer or employe, and as may be so authorized 25 by the employe in writing. 26 * * * 27 Section 2.
