                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 18 (Crimes and Offenses) of the Pennsylvania
     2     Consolidated Statutes, defining the offense of injury to or
     3     interference with police dogs and horses and providing
     4     penalties.

     5     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     6  hereby enacts as follows:
     7     Section 1.  Title 18, act of November 25, 1970 (P.L.707,
     8  No.230), known as the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, is
     9  amended by adding a section to read:
    10  § 5511.1.  Injury to or interference with police dogs or
    11             horses.
    12     A person is guilty of a misdemeanor of the third degree if he
    13  tortures, torments, beats, kicks, kills, strikes, mutilates,
    14  injures, disables or otherwise mistreats, a dog or horse owned
    15  by a police department or police agency of the Commonwealth or
    16  any of its political subdivisions, or who otherwise interferes
    17  with the lawful performance of such dog or horse.
    18     Section 2.  This act shall take effect immediately.
