1 The Embassy of the United States of America in Tehran, Iran,
2 was invaded by militant Iranian citizens.
3 The invasion and takeover has resulted in 50 American
4 citizens being held against their will by Iranian citizens.
5 The government of Iran has encouraged, aided and abetted the
6 continuing takeover of the United States Embassy and has
7 encouraged the militant Iranian citizens to continue to hold the
     8 American hostages.
9 The actions of the Iranian government and the militant
10 Iranian citizens has been condemned by the United Nations and
11 the World Court at the Hague, Netherlands.
12 The government of the United States has pursued every
13 conceivable nonmilitary avenue to secure the safe release of the
14 American hostages. It has failed to do so because of the
15 unconscionable, unreasonable and illegal positions taken by the
16 Iranian government and the militant Iranian citizens.
17 The crisis in Tehran created by the holding of the American

     1  hostages has seriously eroded American prestige as a Nation;
     2 therefore be it

4 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania urge the government of the United
5 States of America to be more forceful and to take whatever
6 actions are necessary to finally resolve the crisis created by
7 the holding of the American hostages at the earliest possible
8 moment to prevent a further erosion of the prestige of this
9 Nation; and be it further
10 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be sent to the
11 President of the United States, the presiding officers of both
12 Houses of Congress and the members of the Pennsylvania
    13 Congressional Delegation.
