In the House of Representatives, March 18, 1980 1 WHEREAS, The House Select Committee - TMI has found that the 2 general public broadcast media system was the only means of 3 communication disseminating news concerning the incident at 4 Three Mile Island; and 5 WHEREAS, The committee feels that all practical usable 6 communications systems should be used in an incident of this 7 type; and 8 WHEREAS, The National Weather Service has a nationwide radio 9 broadcast capability for the dissemination of weather reports on 10 a continuous basis that could include emergency alert 11 information on a continuous basis; therefore be it 12 RESOLVED, That the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency 13 investigate the use of the National Weather Service reporting 14 system for the dissemination of emergency alert information; and 15 be it further 16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge the
1 President of the United States through the Department of 2 Commerce, to provide for the broadcast of emergency information 3 by use of the National Weather Service radio communication 4 system; and be it further 5 RESOLVED, That information concerning the use of such system, 6 when initiated, be generally communicated to all citizens of the 7 United States; and be it further 8 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the 9 President of the United States, the presiding officers of each 10 House of the United States Congress, to each member of the 11 Senate and House of Representatives in Congress from the 12 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the Director of the 13 Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency.
