HOUSE RESOLUTION

                            In the House of Representatives, May 2, 1979

     1     WHEREAS, It is now well established that birds of prey are
     2  vital ecological components of the wildlife communities and
     3  ecosystems in which they live; and
     4     WHEREAS, One million or more bird watchers, nature
     5  photographers and other outdoor enthusiasts watch hawks and
     6  other birds of prey and while much of this activity is
     7  recreational in nature, a great deal of serious scientific
     8  research also is being conducted on hawk migration and other
     9  aspects of birds of prey; and
    10     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is a national center of such activity
    11  which has resulted in a number of levels of Pennsylvania
    12  government designating various sections of the Commonwealth as
    13  migration areas; therefore be it
    14     RESOLVED, That the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of
    15  Pennsylvania in order to focus additional public attention on
    16  birds of prey and the need for their conservation, memorialize
    17  the Congress of the United States to pass an act establishing a

     1  "National Hawk Watching Week" during the first full week of each
     2  October; and be it further
     3     RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be delivered to the
     4  presiding officers of the United States Congress and to each
     5  Senator and Representative from Pennsylvania.
