In the House of Representatives, April 25, 1979 1 The reason for the existence and manner of use of metric 2 figures, etc. originated outside the United States for the 3 benefit of others than our citizens. None of the existing 4 generations in the United States grew up with the metric system. 5 Its institution here would benefit none of such generations. The 6 conversion to it would benefit interests outside the United 7 States to the detriment of the people of our country; therefore 8 be it 9 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives memorialize the 10 President of the United States and the United States Congress to 11 abandon the plans to institute the use of the metric system in 12 the United States; and be it further 13 RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to 14 the President of the United States, to the Secretary of State, 15 to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, to the Majority 16 Leader of the Senate, and to each Senator and Representative 17 from Pennsylvania in the Congress of the United States.
