No. 2039 Session of 1979

INTRODUCED BY NOYE, NOVEMBER 29, 1979

REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON STATE GOVERNMENT, NOVEMBER 29, 1979

                                     AN ACT

1 Declaring and adopting the song "Pennsylvania," music and lyrics
2 by Helen Hall Bucher, as the State song of the Commonwealth.

3 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     4 hereby enacts as follows:
5 Section 1. The song "Pennsylvania," the words and music by
6 Helen Hall Bucher, is hereby adopted as the State song of
7 Pennsylvania and shall be the official song for all public
8 purposes. The words of the song are as follows:
     9 All hail to Pennsylvania,
    10 The glorious Keystone State,
11 Our aims and all we cherish
    12 To thee we dedicate.
13 Here blooms the mountain laurel
    14 In Nature's sunlit bower,
15 We hail thee Queen of Beauty
    16 As Pennsylvania's flower.
    17

1 I love they purple mountains,
2 And thy deeply wooded hills,
3 I love the noble rivers
4 And thy lovely sparkling rills.
5 While the wealth of buried treasure
6 In the mines of Mother Earth,
7 Is a lasting source of riches,
     8 Proving Pennsylvania's worth.
     9
10 Thy fields and fertile valleys
    11 And every fruited vine
12 Yield food for starving nations
    13 O! Pennsylvania mine.
14 Where the happy songs of toilers
15 As they till the verdant sod
16 Reveal their faith in harvests
17 That come from Nature's God.
    18
19 We'll sing of all thy grandeur
20 Of woods and blooming flowers,
21 Where water falls make music
    22 Throughout the sunny hours.
23 Here William Penn found beauty
24 In every bush and tree
    25 He called it Pennsylvania
    26 For all posterity.
27 Section 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
