                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of April 9, 1929 (P.L.177, No.175), entitled
     2     "An act providing for and reorganizing the conduct of the
     3     executive and administrative work of the Commonwealth by the
     4     Executive Department thereof and the administrative
     5     departments, boards, commissions, and officers thereof,
     6     including the boards of trustees of State Normal Schools, or
     7     Teachers Colleges; abolishing, creating, reorganizing or
     8     authorizing the reorganization of certain administrative
     9     departments, boards, and commissions; defining the powers and
    10     duties of the Governor and other executive and administrative
    11     officers, and of the several administrative departments,
    12     boards, commissions, and officers; fixing the salaries of the
    13     Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and certain other executive
    14     and administrative officers; providing for the appointment of
    15     certain administrative officers, and of all deputies and
    16     other assistants and employes in certain departments, boards,
    17     and commissions; and prescribing the manner in which the
    18     number and compensation of the deputies and all other
    19     assistants and employes of certain departments, boards and
    20     commissions shall be determined," requiring the Department of
    21     General Services to establish an experimental vehicle
    22     district to evaluate the effectiveness of gasahol.

    23     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    24  hereby enacts as follows:
    25     Section 1.  Section 2401.1, act of April 9, 1929 (P.L.177,
    26  No.175), known as "The Administrative Code of 1929," is amended


     1  by adding a clause to read:
     2     Section 2401.1.  Specific Powers of the Department of General
     3  Services.--In addition to all other powers and duties set forth
     4  in this act, the Department of General Services shall have the
     5  power, and its duty shall be:
     6     * * *
     7     (9.1)  To establish an experimental vehicle district in which
     8  all State vehicles shall be powered by gasahol, the ethanol
     9  content of which shall have been manufactured from agricultural
    10  products grown or waste generated within the Commonwealth. The
    11  use of gasahol in State vehicles in the experimental district
    12  shall be for a period of 18 months, after which time the
    13  department shall report to the General Assembly on the
    14  effectiveness of the use of gasahol.

    16     Section 2.  For purposes of this amendatory act, the
    17  following words and phrases as used in this amendatory act shall
    18  have the following meanings:
    19     "Ethanol."  Alcohol made from grain or other agricultural
    20  products or from agricultural wastes.
    21     "Gasahol."  A mixture of not less than 7% and not more than
    22  10% ethanol and gasoline which is used as a substitute for
    23  unleaded gasoline.
    24     "State vehicle."  A passenger car or truck owned or leased by
    25  the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
    26     Section 3.  This act shall take effect immediately and shall
    27  expire in three years.
