AN ACT
1 Amending Title 18 (Crimes and Offenses) of the Pennsylvania
2 Consolidated Statutes, increasing the penalty for desecration
3 of burial sites.
4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5 hereby enacts as follows:
6 Section 1. Section 5509(a) of Title 18, act of November 25,
7 1970 (P.L.707, No.230), known as the Pennsylvania Consolidated
8 Statutes, is amended to read:
9 § 5509. Desecration of venerated objects.
10 (a) Offense defined.--
11 (1) A person commits a misdemeanor of the second degree
12 if he intentionally desecrates any public monument or
13 structure, or place of worship [or burial], or if he
14 intentionally desecrates any other object of veneration by
15 the public or a substantial segment thereof in any public
16 place.
17 (2) A person commits a misdemeanor of the first degree
18 if he intentionally desecrates any place of burial.

1 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
