                               A JOINT RESOLUTION

     1  Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the Commonwealth
     2     of Pennsylvania, allowing justices of the peace to complete
     3     their term of office after attaining the age of 70 years.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby resolves as follows:
     6     Section 1.  The following amendment to the Constitution of
     7  the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is proposed in accordance with
     8  the provisions of Article XI thereof:
     9     That subsection (b) of section 16 of Article V be amended to
    10  read:
    11  § 16.  Compensation and retirement of justices, judges and
    12         justices of the peace.

    14     (b)  Justices, judges and justices of the peace shall be
    15  retired upon attaining the age of 70 years. Justices of the
    16  peace who attain the age of 70 during their term of office shall
    17  be retired upon completion of that term of office. Former and
    18  retired justices, judges and justices of the peace shall receive


     1  such compensation as shall be provided by law. No compensation
     2  shall be paid to any justice, judge or justice of the peace who
     3  is suspended or removed from office under section 18 of this
     4  article or under Article VI.
