AN ACT
1 Limiting the fee that may be charged for cashing certain checks
2 and providing a penalty.
3 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
4 hereby enacts as follows:
5 Section 1. The maximum fee that any person may charge for
6 cashing a check issued for public assistance, for unemployment
7 compensation or for a disability shall be three-fourths of 1% of
8 the face amount of the check.
9 Section 2. The Department of Banking may make such
10 regulations as may be necessary to implement the provisions of
11 this act.
12 Section 3. Whoever violates the provisions of this act is
13 guilty of a summary offense and shall be liable to the person
14 who paid a fee in excess of the maximum fee a sum equal to the
15 face amount of the check plus the fee actually charged.
16 Section 4. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
