THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF PENNSYLVANIA

HOUSE RESOLUTION

No. 185 Session of 1978

INTRODUCED BY STUBAN, LETTERMAN, SHUMAN, ZELLER, MILANOVICH,
RENWICK, FRYER, C. GEORGE, ENGLEHART, HASAY, BITTENGER,
STEWART, WENGER, ARMSTRONG, STAIRS, F. TAYLOR, NOYE AND
           WAGNER, FEBRUARY 14, 1978

REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON RULES, FEBRUARY 15, 1978

In the House of Representatives, February 14, 1978

1 WHEREAS, the National Rifle Association has been and remains
2 this country's most effective spokesman against the erosion of
3 the constitutional right to keep and bear arms; and
4 WHEREAS, the National Rifle Association correctly maintains
5 that the control of guns by government would leave law-abiding
6 citizens unarmed while criminals would continue to possess and
     7 use guns; and
8 WHEREAS, the National Rifle Association recognizes that if
9 legislation were adopted to require the registration of
10 handguns, it would represent a giant step toward totally
11 disarming law-abiding American citizens; and
12 WHEREAS, the position of the National Rifle Association on
13 this crucially important issue represents the viewpoint of the
14 vast majority of Pennsylvanians; therefore be it
15 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
16 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania hereby goes on record as being in

1 complete support of the position of the National Rifle
2 Association on the subject of gun control legislation; be it
     3 further
4 RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives is
5 hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the
6 Honorable Jimmy Carter, President of the United States, to each
7 member of the Pennsylvania delegation to the United States
8 Congress, and to the National Rifle Association.
