In the House of Representatives, February 14, 1978 1 WHEREAS, the National Rifle Association has been and remains 2 this country's most effective spokesman against the erosion of 3 the constitutional right to keep and bear arms; and 4 WHEREAS, the National Rifle Association correctly maintains 5 that the control of guns by government would leave law-abiding 6 citizens unarmed while criminals would continue to possess and 7 use guns; and 8 WHEREAS, the National Rifle Association recognizes that if 9 legislation were adopted to require the registration of 10 handguns, it would represent a giant step toward totally 11 disarming law-abiding American citizens; and 12 WHEREAS, the position of the National Rifle Association on 13 this crucially important issue represents the viewpoint of the 14 vast majority of Pennsylvanians; therefore be it 15 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 16 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania hereby goes on record as being in
1 complete support of the position of the National Rifle 2 Association on the subject of gun control legislation; be it 3 further 4 RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives is 5 hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the 6 Honorable Jimmy Carter, President of the United States, to each 7 member of the Pennsylvania delegation to the United States 8 Congress, and to the National Rifle Association.
