In the House of Representatives, March 14, 1977 1 WHEREAS, Recently reports of events involving the travel 2 business have caused much public concern; and 3 WHEREAS, Many persons have been victimized by unscrupulous 4 business activities connected with the travel business; and 5 WHEREAS, Most travel businesses are operated by honest and 6 ethical people therefore the good are being branded together 7 with the bad; therefore be it 8 RESOLVED, That the Speaker of the House of Representatives 9 order the Committee on Consumer Affairs to conduct a study and 10 investigate the questions and concerns of the public relating to 11 the travel business; and be it further 12 RESOLVED, That the committee may hold hearings, take 13 testimony, and make its investigation at such places as it deems 14 necessary in order to make a report to the House of 15 Representatives as soon as possible. It may issue subpoenas 16 under the hand and seal of its chairman commanding any person to 17 appear before it and to answer questions touching matters
1 properly being inquired into by the committee and to produce 2 such books, papers, records and documents as the committee deems 3 necessary. Such subpoenas may be served upon any person and 4 shall have the force and effect of subpoenas issued out of the 5 courts of this Commonwealth. Any person who willfully neglects 6 or refuses to testify before the committee or to produce any 7 books, papers, records or documents, shall be subject to the 8 penalties provided by the laws of the Commonwealth in such case. 9 Each member of the committee shall have power to administer 10 oaths and affirmations to witnesses appearing before the 11 committee; and be it further 12 RESOLVED, That within 30 calendars days after the committee 13 has made its report, the chairman of the committee shall cause a 14 record of all expenses incurred by the committee, or the members 15 thereof, which are payable at Commonwealth expense, to be filed 16 with the Speaker of the House and the Speaker shall cause the 17 same to be entered in the journal thereof. No expenses incurred 18 by the committee or any member thereof shall be reimbursable by 19 the Chief Clerk unless such expense shall first have been 20 included as an expense item in the record heretofore required; 21 and be it further 22 RESOLVED, That the committee report its findings to the House 23 of Representatives as soon as possible.
