                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of June 1, 1945 (P.L.1242, No.428), entitled
     2     "An act relating to roads, streets, highways and bridges;
     3     amending, revising, consolidating and changing the laws
     4     administered by the Secretary of Highways and by the
     5     Department of Highways relating thereto," providing that all
     6     highway work having a total monetary value in excess of seven
     7     thousand five hundred dollars be performed only by
     8     contractors.

     9     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    10  hereby enacts as follows:
    11     Section 1.  Section 403, act of June 1, 1945 (P.L.1242,
    12  No.428), known as the "State Highway Law," amended December 1,
    13  1965 (P.L.1009, No.375), is amended to read:
    14     Section 403.  By Whom Construction Work to Be Done.--All work
    15  of construction, building or rebuilding, repairing and
    16  maintenance of highways, excepting that of [repairing and
    17  maintenance] snow clearance and removal, done under the
    18  provisions of this act, may be either (1) by the agents,
    19  including cities when so designated by the department,
    20  [servants] and employes of the department, or (2) by contract[,

     1  and shall be according to] and all such work having a total
     2  monetary value in excess of seven thousand five hundred dollars
     3  ($7,500.00) shall be by contract pursuant to the provisions of
     4  section 404. All such work shall be in accordance with plans and
     5  specifications to be prepared or approved in every case by the
     6  department.
     7     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
