                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 42 (Judiciary and Judicial Procedure) of the
     2     Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, further providing for
     3     certain restrictions on the activities of district justices.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Section 3304 of Title 42, act of November 25,
     7  1970 (P.L.707, No.230), known as the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     8  Statutes, added July 9, 1976 (P.L.586, No.142), is amended to
     9  read:
    10  § 3304.  Acting as collection agent or paid arbitrator
    11           prohibited.
    12     (a)  Collection agent.--No judge or district justice shall
    13  act as agent for a person in the collection of a claim or
    14  judgment for money.
    15     (b)  Arbitrator.--No judge or district justice shall receive
    16  any fee or emolument for performing the duties of an arbitrator
    17  except as provided in subsection (c).
    18     (c)  Attorney holding office of district justice.--Any
    19  attorney at law holding the office of district justice shall not

     1  be prohibited from serving as an arbitrator pursuant to section
     2  7361 (relating to compulsory arbitration) or as a master
     3  pursuant to general rule. Such attorney shall be entitled to
     4  receive such fee or emolument for his services as is provided
     5  for other attorneys performing the same functions.
     6     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
