                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of June 15, 1951 (P.L.586, No.144), entitled
     2     "An act regulating the suspension, removal, furloughing and
     3     reinstatement of police officers in boroughs and townships of
     4     the first class having police forces of less than three
     5     members, and in townships of the second class," authorizing
     6     the appointment of police in certain second class townships
     7     through Federally funded programs without invoking the
     8     provisions of this act.

     9     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    10  hereby enacts as follows:
    11     Section 1.  Section 1, act of June 15, 1951 (P.L.586,
    12  No.144), entitled "An act regulating the suspension, removal,
    13  furloughing and reinstatement of police officers in boroughs and
    14  townships of the first class having police forces of less than
    15  three members, and in townships of the second class," is amended
    16  to read:
    17     Section 1.  This act shall apply to each township of the
    18  second class, to each borough and township of the first class
    19  having a police force of less than three members and not subject
    20  to sections one thousand one hundred sixty-five through one
    21  thousand one hundred ninety of the act, approved the fourth day

     1  of May, one thousand nine hundred twenty-seven (Pamphlet Laws
     2  519), known as "The Borough Code," and their amendments, nor to
     3  sections six hundred twenty-five through six hundred fifty of
     4  the act, approved the twenty-fourth day of June, one thousand
     5  nine hundred thirty-one (Pamphlet Laws 1206), known as "The
     6  First Class Township Code," and their amendments. This act shall
     7  not apply to those second class townships having a police force
     8  of three or more members if those members in excess of two are
     9  appointed on a temporary basis through a Federally funded
    10  program.
    11     Section 2.  This act shall take effect immediately.
