AN ACT 1 Amending the act of August 9, 1955 (P.L.323, No.130), entitled 2 "An act relating to counties of the third, fourth, fifth, 3 sixth, seventh and eighth classes; amending, revising, 4 consolidating and changing the laws relating thereto," 5 permitting advertisement of the titles and summarizations in 6 lieu of the entire text of proposed ordinances. 7 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 8 hereby enacts as follows: 9 Section 1. Subsection (b) of section 509, act of August 9, 10 1955 (P.L.323, No.130), known as "The County Code," is amended 11 to read: 12 Section 509. Ordinances and Resolutions.--* * * 13 (b) All such PROPOSED ordinances, unless otherwise provided <-- 14 by law, shall be published at least once in one newspaper of 15 general circulation in the county NOT MORE THAN SIXTY DAYS NOR <-- 16 LESS THAN SEVEN DAYS PRIOR TO PASSAGE. Public notices of any 17 proposed ordinance shall include either the full text thereof or 18 the title and a brief summary prepared by the county solicitor 19 setting forth all the provisions in reasonable detail and a
1 reference to a place within the county where copies of the 2 proposed ordinance may be examined. If the full text is not 3 included a copy thereof shall be supplied to a newspaper of 4 general circulation in the county at the time the public notice 5 is published. IN THE EVENT SUBSTANTIAL AMENDMENTS ARE MADE IN <-- 6 THE PROPOSED ORDINANCE OR RESULUTION, UPON ENACTMENT, THE 7 COMMISSIONERS SHALL WITHIN TEN DAYS RE-ADVERTISE IN ONE 8 NEWSPAPER OF GENERAL CIRCULATION IN THE COUNTY, A BRIEF SUMMARY 9 SETTING FORTH ALL THE PROVISIONS IN REASONABLE DETAIL TOGETHER 10 WITH A SUMMARY OF THE AMENDMENTS. Such ordinances shall not 11 become effective until [ten days after the publication <-- 12 aforesaid] RECORDED IN THE ORDINANCE BOOK OF THE COUNTY. In any <-- 13 case in which maps, plans or drawings of any kind are adopted as 14 part of an ordinance, the commissioners may, instead of 15 publishing the same as part of the ordinance, refer in 16 publishing the ordinance to the place where such maps, plans or 17 drawings are on file and may be examined. 18 * * * D21L16CVV/19750S0671B1244 - 2 -
