HOUSE RESOLUTION

No. 199 Session of 1976


        INTRODUCED BY MESSRS. A. K. HUTCHINSON, SCHMITT, ZEARFOSS,
           GREEN, LAUGHLIN, PETRARCA, MRS. TOLL, MRS. GILLETTE, MESSRS.
           ROSS, SCHWEDER, DeMEDIO, TRELLO, ABRAHAM, M. M. MULLEN,
           STAHL, FEE, VROON, KOLTER AND SALOOM, FEBRUARY 3, 1976

        AS AMENDED IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, MARCH 24, 1976

                       In the House of Representatives, February 3, 1976

     1     WHEREAS, Recently reports of events involving the travel
     2  agency business have caused much public concern; and
     3     WHEREAS, Many persons have been victimized by unscrupulous
     4  business activities connected with the travel agency business;
     5  and
     6     WHEREAS, Most travel agencies are operated by honest and
     7  ethical people therefore the good are being branded together
     8  with the bad; therefore be it
     9     RESOLVED, That the Speaker of the House of Representatives
    10  order the Committee on Consumer Protection AND THE COMMITTEE ON   <--
    11  BUSINESS AND COMMERCE to conduct a study and investigate the
    12  questions and concerns of the public relating to the travel
    13  agency business; and be it further
    14     RESOLVED, That the EACH committee may hold hearings, take      <--
    15  testimony, and make its investigation at such places as it deems
    16  necessary within this Commonwealth. It may issue subpoenas under


     1  the hand and seal of its chairman commanding any person to
     2  appear before it and to answer questions touching matters
     3  properly being inquired into by the committee and to produce
     4  such books, papers, records and documents as the committee deems
     5  necessary. Such subpoenas may be served upon any person and
     6  shall have the force and effect of subpoenas issued out of the
     7  courts of this Commonwealth. Any person who wilfully neglects or
     8  refuses to testify before the committee or to produce any books,
     9  papers, records or documents, shall be subject to the penalties
    10  provided by the laws of the Commonwealth in such case. Each
    11  member of the committee shall have power to administer oaths and
    12  affirmations to witnesses appearing before the committee; and be
    13  it further
    14     RESOLVED, That within thirty calendars days after the EACH     <--
    15  committee has made its report, the chairman of the committee      <--
    16  COMMITTEES shall cause a record of all expenses incurred by the   <--
    17  committee, COMMITTEES, or the members thereof, which are payable  <--
    18  at Commonwealth expense, to be filed with the Speaker of the
    19  House and the Speaker shall cause the same to be entered in the
    20  journal thereof. No expenses incurred by the committee            <--
    21  COMMITTEES or any member thereof shall be reimbursable by the     <--
    22  Chief Clerk unless such expense shall first have been included
    23  as an expense item in the record heretofore required; and be it
    24  further
    25     RESOLVED, That the EACH committee report its findings to the   <--
    26  House of Representatives as soon as possible.
