In the House of Representatives, January 28, 1975 1 WHEREAS, The Department of Public Welfare has entered into a 2 contract with Paid Prescriptions Inc. of Burlingame, California, 3 to administer a program for paying druggists for prescriptions 4 furnished to welfare recipients; and 5 WHEREAS, Under this new agreement, the druggists are to 6 assume responsibility for the paper work and are to receive as 7 compensation for handling these prescriptions the cost of the 8 drugs plus a service charge of $1.85, whereas formerly they
1 received 33-1/3% profit; and 2 WHEREAS, Under this new agreement, the larger drug store 3 chains would appear to have an undue advantage over the smaller, 4 independent druggist; and 5 WHEREAS, This new agreement is scheduled to go into effect on 6 February 1, 1975; therefore be it 7 RESOLVED, That it is the sense of the House of 8 Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania that the 9 implementation of the new agreement with Paid Prescriptions Inc. 10 be delayed for 60 days so that the effect of the agreement on 11 the druggists of Pennsylvania can be more carefully studied, and 12 that during this 60 day period, the Secretary of Public Welfare 13 should meet with pharmacists and in particular, representatives 14 of the Pennsylvania Pharmaceutical Association to review the 15 provisions and particulars of the new pact with a view toward 16 revising the contract if that shall be deemed in the best 17 interest of the Commonwealth and all the druggists concerned; 18 and be it further 19 RESOLVED, That a copy of this document be transmitted to the 20 Secretary of Public Welfare.
