                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
     2     act relating to the public school system, including certain
     3     provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
     4     schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
     5     laws relating thereto," providing for suspension or
     6     revocation and reinstatement of certificates in certain
     7     cases.

     8     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     9  hereby enacts as follows:
    10     Section 1.  Section 1211, act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30,
    11  No.14), known as the "Public School Code of 1949," is amended to
    12  read:
    13     Section 1211.  Annulment, Suspension and Revocations and
    14  Reinstatements of Certificates.--(a) All State certificates or
    15  endorsements of the certificates of other states may be annulled
    16  by the [Superintendent of Public Instruction] Secretary of
    17  Education for incompetency, cruelty, negligence, immorality or
    18  intemperance, after hearing, of which reasonable notice in
    19  writing must be given to the parties interested.
    20     (b)  The secretary shall suspend the certificate and/or
    21  registration of any person indicted for a crime or misdemeanor

     1  involving moral turpitude whenever a certified copy of such
     2  indictment shall have been filed with the secretary or
     3  department and shall revoke the same upon conviction thereof
     4  whenever a certified copy of the verdict or judgment or sentence
     5  of the court shall have been filed with the secretary or
     6  department and shall reinstate such certificate and/or
     7  registration in any case where, after hearing, the secretary or
     8  department shall deem the same just and proper.
     9     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
