                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 51 (Military Affairs) of the Pennsylvania
     2     Consolidated Statutes, providing tuition credit at certain
     3     colleges and schools for members of the National Guard.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Title 51, act of November 25, 1970 (P.L.707,
     7  No.230), known as the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes,
     8  amended August 1, 1975 (No.92), is amended by adding a section
     9  to read:
    10  § 3503.  Tuition credit.
    11     (a)  Credit.--A member of the Pennsylvania National Guard who
    12  is a resident of Pennsylvania and who enrolls in a State college
    13  or university, or State aided college or university, or
    14  technical school shall receive a credit of 50% of the tuition
    15  charges of the university, college or school. The credit shall
    16  be continuous so long as the member maintains satisfactory
    17  performance with the Pennsylvania National Guard and meets the
    18  normal requirements of the institution.

     1     (b)  Certification.--Upon request of a member of the National
     2  Guard entitled to credit under subsection (a), the commanding
     3  officer shall attest to the performance of the member in the
     4  National Guard and send the same to the appropriate institution.
     5  Certification of satisfactory performance shall be accomplished
     6  at the time of enrollment for each semester or academic term for
     7  which tuition credit is requested.
     8     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
