                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 24 (Education) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, further providing for optional membership in school
     3     employees retirement system.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Subsection (c) of section 8301 of Title 24, act
     7  of November 25, 1970 (P.L.707, No.230), known as the
     8  Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, added October 2, 1975
     9  (No.96), is amended to read:
    10  § 8301.  Mandatory and optional membership.

    12     (c)  Optional membership.--The school employees categorized
    13  in subsection (a)(3) and all nonprofessional part-time employees
    14  who are employed on a per diem or hourly basis for more than 80
    15  full-day sessions or 500 hours in any fiscal year shall have the
    16  right to elect membership in the system. Once such election is
    17  exercised, membership shall commence from the original date of
    18  eligibility and shall continue until the termination of such
    19  service. If such election is not exercised at the time the

     1  option is first extended, such decision will be irrevocable.
