                                     AN ACT

     1  Providing for a non-binding referendum on the question of a
     2     proposed amendment to the Constitution of the United States
     3     permitting reading of the Holy Bible or the Lord's Prayer in
     4     the public schools.

     5     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     6  hereby enacts as follows:
     7     Section 1.  At the primary election in May, 1976 the
     8  following question shall be submitted to the electorate of the
     9  Commonwealth to determine the wish of the electorate regarding
    10  an amendment to the Constitution of the United States permitting
    11  the reading of the Holy Bible or the Lord's Prayer in the public
    12  schools:
    13     Shall the General Assembly petition the
    14     Congress of the United States to call a
    15     convention for the purpose of proposing
    16     an amendment to the Constitution of the            Yes     No
    17     United States to permit the reading of
    18     the Holy Bible or the Lord's Prayer in
    19     public schools on a voluntary basis.

     1     Section 2.  The county board of elections in each county
     2  shall print in bound form separate official ballots in
     3  sufficient numbers to furnish to the election officers in each
     4  election district of the county, one ballot to be supplied to
     5  each voter at the primary election and also specimen ballots
     6  equal in number to one-fifth of the official ballots. In
     7  districts where voting machines are used, the question may
     8  appear on the face of the machine where the machine is properly
     9  equipped for such purpose; otherwise a separate printed ballot
    10  shall be used.
    11     Section 3.  The results of the election shall be tabulated by
    12  the proper election officers of each county and duly certified
    13  to the Secretary of the Commonwealth and the results certified
    14  to the presiding officers of the Pennsylvania House of
    15  Representatives and the Senate for their guidance.
    16     Section 4.  This act shall take effect immediately.
