                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
     2     act relating to the public school system, including certain
     3     provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
     4     schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
     5     laws relating thereto," further providing for instruction on
     6     fire dangers.

     7     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     8  hereby enacts as follows:
     9     Section 1.  Subsection (a) of section 1518, act of March 10,
    10  1949 (P.L.30, No.14), known as the "Public School Code of 1949,"
    11  amended September 28, 1951 (P.L.1551, No.395), is amended to
    12  read:
    13     Section 1518.  Test Books and Instruction on Fire Dangers and
    14  Prevention Drills.--(a) It shall be the duty of the
    15  [Superintendent of Public Instruction] Secretary of Education,
    16  in consultation with the Pennsylvania State Police, to prepare
    17  books of instruction for use of teachers of students of all
    18  grades, in the public and private schools, with regard to the
    19  dangers of fire and the prevention of fire waste. Such books of
    20  instruction shall be published at the expense of the State,

     1  under the direction of the [Superintendent of Public
     2  Instruction] Secretary of Education, and shall be distributed in
     3  sufficient quantities for the use of the teachers in schools as
     4  herein provided. The curriculum of all schools shall include
     5  some regular and continuous study of such subjects during the
     6  entire school year. It shall be approved by the Department of
     7  Health and shall include cardio-pulmonary resuscitation,
     8  standard and advanced lifesaving, first aid, and safety in the
     9  home.
