                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of April 29, 1959 (P.L.58, No.32), entitled "An
     2     act consolidating and revising the Vehicle Code, the Tractor
     3     Code, the Motor Vehicle Financial Responsibility Act and
     4     other acts relating to the ownership, possession and use of
     5     vehicles and tractors," further providing for speed limits in
     6     business or residential districts and public park areas.

     7     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     8  hereby enacts as follows:
     9     Section 1.  Subsection (b) of section 1002, act of April 29,
    10  1959 (P.L.58, No.32), known as "The Vehicle Code," is amended by
    11  adding a clause to read:
    12     Section 1002.  Restrictions as to Speed.--

    14     (b)  Subject to the provisions of subsection (a) of this
    15  section, speeds in excess of the maximum limits hereinafter
    16  provided shall be unlawful:

    18     (3.1)  Twenty-five (25) miles an hour speed limit: All
    19  vehicles, except those restricted by this act to lower maximum
    20  speeds, within business or residential districts, or public park


     1  areas. An official sign shall be placed at the beginning of the
     2  speed zone on the right-hand side of the highway facing the
     3  traffic to be controlled, or on the left-hand side of one-way
     4  streets. At the end of the speed zone, an official sign shall be
     5  similarly placed as to traffic indicating the end of the speed
     6  zone.

     8     Section 2.  Clause (4) of subsection (b) of section 1002 of
     9  the act, amended July 31, 1968 (P.L.1021, No.302), is amended to
    10  read:
    11     Section 1002.  Restrictions as to Speed.--

    13     (b)  Subject to the provisions of subsection (a) of this
    14  section, speeds in excess of the maximum limits hereinafter
    15  provided shall be unlawful:

    17     (4)  [Twenty-five (25) or thirty-five (35)] Thirty-five (35)
    18  or forty (40) miles an hour speed limit: All vehicles, except
    19  those restricted by this act to lower maximum speeds, within
    20  business or residence districts, or public  park areas, where
    21  official signs, erected by the proper authorities, on the right-
    22  hand side of the highway facing the traffic to be controlled, or
    23  on the left-hand side of one-way streets, are displayed. An
    24  official sign shall be similarly placed one-eighth (1/8) of a
    25  mile before the beginning of the limited speed zone indicating
    26  the maximum speed to be observed in such limited speed zone.
    27  This limit shall be observed for a distance beyond said sign for
    28  not more than one-eighth (1/8) of a mile. An additional sign
    29  shall be placed at intervals not greater than one-eighth (1/8)
    30  of a mile, and any extension of such limited zone shall be

     1  marked by additional signs in like manner. At the end of such
     2  limited zone, there shall be an official sign, similarly placed
     3  as to traffic, indicating the end of the limited zone.
