AN ACT
1 Amending the act of June 1, 1945 (P.L.1242, No.428), entitled
2 "An act relating to roads, streets, highways and bridges;
3 amending, revising, consolidating and changing the laws
4 administered by the Secretary of Highways and by the
5 Department of Highways relating thereto," providing for the
6 State to pay certain lighting and traffic control costs.
7 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
8 hereby enacts as follows:
9 Section 1. Section 402.1, act of June 1, 1945 (P.L.1242,
10 No.428), known as the "State Highway Law," added May 31, 1957
11 (P.L.234, No.112), is amended to read:
12 Section 402.1. Highway Lighting.--(a) The department [may]
13 shall construct, improve and thereafter maintain and repair
14 equipment for the lighting of existing or new highways, or any
15 part thereof, and may contract for the lighting of such
16 equipment at the expense of the Commonwealth.
17 (b) The department shall, at the expense of the
18 Commonwealth, contract for the lighting of all State highways
19 which pass through any municipality.
20 (c) The department shall, at the expense of the
1 Commonwealth, construct, erect, improve, maintain and repair all
2 traffic control signals on all State highways which pass through
3 any municipality.
4 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 1975.
