                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of April 29, 1959 (P.L.58, No.32), entitled "An
     2     act consolidating and revising the Vehicle Code, the Tractor
     3     Code, the Motor Vehicle Financial Responsibility Act and
     4     other acts relating to the ownership, possession and use of
     5     vehicles and tractors," providing for a notation on the
     6     operator's license that the person licensed is the donor of
     7     an anatomical gift.

     8     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     9  hereby enacts as follows:
    10     Section 1.  The act of April 29, 1959 (P.L.58, No.32), known
    11  as "The Vehicle Code," is amended by adding a section to read:
    12     Section 627.  Donor of Body Organs.--(a) The department shall
    13  provide a method in order that a person making application for a
    14  license or identification card, or renewal thereof, may
    15  designate that he or she is a donor of an anatomical gift
    16  authorized by Chapter 86 of Title 20 of the Pennsylvania
    17  Consolidated Statutes (relating to anatomical gifts).
    18     (b)  Upon such designation, the department shall make a
    19  suitable notation upon the license indicating that the licensee
    20  is a donor. The designation shall be removed only upon thirty


     1  (30) days written notice to the department by the donor. No
     2  designation shall be noted upon the license or permit of any
     3  person under the age of eighteen (18) years.
     4     (c)  The designation shall constitute sufficient legal
     5  authority for the removal of a body organ or part upon the death
     6  of the licensee.
     7     (d)  The secretary shall publish the existence of such
     8  program along with information regarding the procedures for
     9  having such market affixed to a license.
    10     (e)  The secretary shall notify his counterparts in each of
    11  the other states as to the existence of the program and the
    12  significance of the marking.
    13     (f)  No provision of this act shall be construed to modify or
    14  repeal any provisions of Chapter 86 of Title 20 of the
    15  Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes (relating to anatomical
    16  gifts).
    17     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 1975.
