PRINTER'S NO. 119
No. 15 Session of 1973
INTRODUCED BY MR. D. S. HAYES, JANUARY 22, 1973
REFERRED TO COMMITTEE ON RULES, JANUARY 22, 1973
In the House of Representatives, January 22, 1973 1 Recently newsmen have been prosecuted for their refusal to 2 divulge their source of information. Such activity is an 3 infringement upon the First Amendment right to freedom of the 4 press. Moreover, it appears that Congressional action is 5 necessary at this time to prohibit this practice and to grant 6 newsmen complete immunity from revealing their sources of 7 information; therefore be it 8 RESOLVED (the Senate concurring), That the House of 9 Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania request the 10 Congress of the United States to support legislation which would 11 guarantee immunity to all newmen from divulgence of their news 12 sources; and be it further 13 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to 14 the presiding officer of each House of Congress of the United 15 States and to each Senator and Representative from Pennsylvania 16 in the Congress of the United States.
