AN ACT
1 Requiring certain nursing homes, assisted living facilities,
2 public swimming pools and health clubs to maintain automated
3 external defibrillators; and providing for the powers and
4 duties of the Department of Health.
5 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
6 hereby enacts as follows:
7 Section 1. Short title.
8 This act shall be known and may be cited as the Automated
9 External Defibrillator Maintenance Act.
10 Section 2. Maintenance of automated external defibrillator.
11 The licensee of each nursing home and assisted living
12 facility licensed by the Commonwealth and the owner or operator
13 of each public swimming pool and health club located in this
14 Commonwealth shall maintain an automated external defibrillator
15 on each premises in accordance with regulations promulgated by
16 the Department of Health.
17 Section 3. Duties of department.
18 The Department of Health shall:
1 (1) Promulgate rules and regulations to prescribe the
2 manner in which automated external defibrillators shall be
3 maintained in accordance with the requirements of this act.
4 (2) Issue a certification to each licensee of a nursing
5 home or assisted living facility licensed by the Commonwealth
6 and owner or operator of a public swimming pool and health
7 club located in this Commonwealth who complies with the
8 provisions of this act.
9 (3) Enforce the provisions of this act.
10 Section 4. Effective date.
11 This act shall take effect in 60 days.
