A RESOLUTION
1Recognizing the week of October 19 through 25, 2014, as
2"National Chemistry Week" in Pennsylvania.
3WHEREAS, National Chemistry Week is an annual event
4designated to raise awareness of the importance of chemistry in
5everyday life and 2014 marks the 27th anniversary of National
6Chemistry Week; and
7WHEREAS, The American Chemical Society coordinates National
8Chemistry Week each year and it is designed to be a community-
9based program that unites the local sections of the society with
10schools, businesses and individuals; and
11WHEREAS, More than 96% of all manufactured goods are directly
12touched by chemistry, making chemistry an essential part of
13every facet of this nation's economy; and
14WHEREAS, The business of chemistry is a significant
15contributor to the economy of this Commonwealth, employing
16nearly 47,000 people; and
17WHEREAS, Chemistry is intimately involved in the processing
1and preparation of food and this year's theme, "The Sweet Side
2of Chemistry – Candy" will celebrate the involvement by
3showcasing the chemistry involved in making candy and
4confections; and
5WHEREAS, The evolving science of chemistry is essential to
6this Commonwealth's industry and the well-being of this
7Commonwealth's citizens, therefore be it
8RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the week of October 19
9through 25, 2014, as "National Chemistry Week" in Pennsylvania.
