A RESOLUTION 1 Observing the week of November 23 through 29, 2008, as "National 2 Family Week" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, As individuals, we find in our families a sense of 4 identity, purpose and security; and 5 WHEREAS, As a Commonwealth, we find in our families the 6 vision and strength we need to remain a truly free and just 7 society; and 8 WHEREAS, Through our experiences as members of a family, we 9 learn important lessons about love and faith, duty and fidelity, 10 personal responsibility and concern for others; and 11 WHEREAS, Because these lessons are conveyed to the community 12 at large and because the family gives us a model of human 13 relationships after which all other social institutions are 14 fashioned, the strength and integrity of the family are vital to 15 our well-being as a nation and as a State; and 16 WHEREAS, Families are the fundamental cornerstone of human
1 society, providing models for caring from birth through the 2 aging years and inspiring celebration and renewal; and 3 WHEREAS, This Commonwealth is blessed with a multitude of 4 families, which is an essential part of the cultural, social and 5 spiritual fabric that is Pennsylvania; and 6 WHEREAS, Families need and deserve recognition, encouragement 7 and support for the daily miracles they perform; and 8 WHEREAS, Everyone has a role to play in making families 9 successful, including neighborhood organizations, businesses, 10 nonprofit agencies, policymakers and, of course, families 11 themselves; and 12 WHEREAS, The first "National Family Week" began in 1968 as a 13 means to provide Americans with an opportunity to promote strong 14 families; and 15 WHEREAS, Thanksgiving week is a traditional time to recognize 16 the important role families play in strengthening our 17 communities; therefore be it 18 RESOLVED, That the Senate observe the week of November 23 19 through 29, 2008, as "National Family Week" in Pennsylvania and 20 call upon all citizens, government agencies, public and private 21 institutions and businesses to mark this week with appropriate 22 ceremonies and programs in appreciation of our communities' 23 families.
