University of Pennsylvania and Lincoln University; and
WHEREAS, Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, founded in 1837,
is the oldest HBCU in the country, and Lincoln University was
founded in 1854; and
WHEREAS, Both institutions have a mission to uphold their
tradition of academic excellence as they strive to maintain
their commitment to provide an education for students of diverse
backgrounds; and
WHEREAS, Both institutions have a vision for their present
and future students to become respected members of their
communities, this Commonwealth and society to enhance the
quality of life for all in an ever-changing global community;
and
WHEREAS, The national and global communities recognize
education as a pathway to grow, learn and achieve one's highest
goals; and
WHEREAS, During "Historically Black Colleges and Universities
Week" homage is paid to the brave and determined individuals who
have established the foundation for HBCUs and underscored the
importance of access to education; and
WHEREAS, We must continue to encourage, educate, empower and
elevate HBCUs and their students seeking an education to
contribute to the local, national and global community;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the week of September 20
through 26, 2015, as "Historically Black Colleges and
Universities Week" in Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
Dr. Richard Green, Lincoln University, 1570 Baltimore Pike, P.O.
Box 179, Lincoln University, PA 19352; and be it further
