        INTRODUCED BY WOZNIAK, BOSCOLA, FERLO, KASUNIC, FONTANA, LOGAN,
           COSTA, TARTAGLIONE, ERICKSON, WASHINGTON, ORIE, DINNIMAN,
           RAFFERTY, C. WILLIAMS, O'PAKE, D. WHITE, PIPPY, PILEGGI, FUMO
           AND GREENLEAF, APRIL 18, 2007

        INTRODUCED AND ADOPTED, APRIL 18, 2007

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating the week of May 1 through 7, 2007, as "Charcot-
     2     Marie-Tooth Association Awareness Week" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) is the most common
     4  inherited neurological disorder, affecting approximately 150,000
     5  persons in the United States and countless Pennsylvanians; and
     6     WHEREAS, The Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association (CMTA) in
     7  Chester, Pennsylvania, has educated and served this Commonwealth
     8  regarding CMT for more than 20 years; and
     9     WHEREAS, While at present there is no cure for CMT, through
    10  further study and physical therapy, muscle strength and
    11  endurance can be improved; and
    12     WHEREAS, The Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association awareness and
    13  outreach campaign in Pennsylvania can be used as a national
    14  model; and
    15     WHEREAS, CMTA is leading the charge for educational programs
    16  dedicated to training doctors at medical colleges in this
    17  Commonwealth to identify and treat CMT symptoms; therefore be it

     1     RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the week of May 1 through
     2  7, 2007, as "Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association Awareness Week" in
     3  Pennsylvania.
