AN ACT
1 Providing for naming of publicly funded sports facilities.
2 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
3 hereby enacts as follows:
4 Section 1. Short title.
5 This act shall be known and may be cited as the Stadium
6 Naming Act.
7 Section 2. Definitions.
8 The following words and phrases when used in this act shall
9 have the meanings given to them in this section unless the
10 context clearly indicates otherwise:
11 "Facility." A place where an athletic event is conducted in
12 the presence of individuals who pay admission to view the event.
13 "Playing surface." The surface on which an athletic event is
14 played.
15 Section 3. Naming.
16 (a) Requirements.--A facility or a playing surface in the
17 facility shall be named in accordance with subsection (b) if all
1 of the following apply:
2 (1) The facility is located in a municipality.
3 (2) The facility is constructed or renovated with the
4 use of money from the Commonwealth.
5 (b) Options.--If subsection (a) applies, the facility or the
6 playing surface in the facility shall be named for one of the
7 following:
8 (1) The Commonwealth.
9 (2) The municipality in which the facility is located.
10 (3) An appropriate public figure.
11 (4) A natural resource or landmark.
12 Section 4. Effective date.
13 This act shall take effect January 1, 1999.
