                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of June 3, 1919 (P.L.366, No.179), entitled "An
     2     act reorganizing the Department of State Police; creating
     3     therein a Bureau of Fire Protection; providing for a State
     4     Police Force, and defining the powers and duties of the same,
     5     including the enforcement of laws relating to game, fish,
     6     forestry, and water supply, and certain other laws, and
     7     including the collection of information useful for the
     8     detection of crime, and the apprehension of criminals;
     9     providing for the equipment, maintenance, and transportation
    10     of such police; providing for barracks and substations
    11     therefor; and prescribing penalties," further providing for
    12     the qualifications of members of the Pennsylvania State
    13     Police.

    14     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    15  hereby enacts as follows:
    16     Section 1.  Subsection (a) of section 8, act of June 3, 1919
    17  (P.L.366, No.179), entitled "An act reorganizing the Department
    18  of State Police; creating therein a Bureau of Fire Protection;
    19  providing for a State Police Force, and defining the powers and
    20  duties of the same, including the enforcement of laws relating
    21  to game, fish, forestry, and water supply, and certain other
    22  laws, and including the collection of information useful for the
    23  detection of crime, and the apprehension of criminals; providing


     1  for the equipment, maintenance, and transportation of such
     2  policy; providing for barracks and substations therefor; and
     3  prescribing penalties," amended May 16, 1945 (P.L.583, No.239),
     4  is amended to read:
     5     Section 8.  (a)  No applicant shall be appointed to the
     6  Pennsylvania State Police Force until he has satisfactorily
     7  passed a physical and mental examination, based upon the
     8  standard provided by the rules and regulations of the police
     9  force of the cities of the first class, in addition to which
    10  each applicant must be a citizen of the United States, and of
    11  sound constitution, able to ride, of good moral character, and
    12  between the ages of twenty-one and forty years. No person who
    13  has been convicted of, or pleaded guilty or no contest to, any
    14  misdemeanor or felony in any Federal or State court shall be
    15  eligible to serve as a member of the Pennsylvania State Police
    16  Force.
