AN ACT 1 Making appropriations to the Trustees of the Berean Training and 2 Industrial School at Philadelphia. 3 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 4 hereby enacts as follows: 5 Section 1. (a) The sum of $1,054,000 is hereby appropriated 6 to the Trustees of the Berean Training and Industrial School at 7 Philadelphia for the fiscal year July 1, 1992, to June 30, 1993, 8 for operation and maintenance of the school. 9 (b) The sum of $98,000 is hereby appropriated to the 10 Trustees of the Berean Training and Industrial School for the 11 fiscal year July 1, 1992, to June 30, 1993, for payment of debt 12 services to the Commonwealth. 13 Section 2. Payments to the Berean Training and Industrial 14 School on account of the appropriation in section 1(a) shall be 15 made by the Secretary of Education in equal quarterly payments. 16 Section 3. The Berean Training and Industrial School shall 17 provide full, complete and accurate information as may be
1 required by the Department of Education or the Majority Chairman 2 or the Minority Chairman of the Appropriations Committee of the 3 Senate or the Majority Chairman or the Minority Chairman of the 4 Appropriations Committee of the House of Representatives. 5 Section 4. No funds from an appropriation made by this act 6 shall be made available for expenditure after October 1, 1992, 7 unless a good faith effort, as prescribed by the Department of 8 Public Welfare, has been made to hire welfare clients for new 9 jobs created as a result of the State appropriations. No 10 existing employees or employees on unemployment compensation are 11 to be displaced by this effort. A report detailing these efforts 12 is to be submitted to the Department of Public Welfare by 13 September 15, 1992. The Department of Public Welfare shall give 14 written notification of compliance to the State Treasurer. 15 Section 5. This act shall take effect July 1, 1992, or 16 immediately, whichever is later.
