                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
     2     act relating to the public school system, including certain
     3     provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
     4     schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
     5     laws relating thereto," further providing for the funding of
     6     remedial programs.

     7     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     8  hereby enacts as follows:
     9     Section 1.  Section 1511.1(b) of the act of March 10, 1949
    10  (P.L.30, No.14), known as the Public School Code of 1949, added
    11  June 29, 1984 (P.L.438, No.93), is amended to read:
    12     Section 1511.1.  Remedial Programs.--* * *
    13     (b)  Funds appropriated for remediation services and not
    14  distributed through sections 2501(19), 2502(d) and 2502.5 shall
    15  be distributed by the Department of Education to school
    16  districts based on the number of public school students
    17  identified for remediation and to intermediate units on behalf
    18  of nonpublic school students for remediation. However, the funds
    19  appropriated to school districts in which more than one-third of


     1  the students are identified for remediation pursuant to this
     2  section and the regulations of the State Board of Education
     3  shall be increased to two times the per pupil amount provided
     4  for students in the other school districts. No school district
     5  shall receive the increased funds for more than four consecutive
     6  years. Funds distributed to intermediate units shall be for
     7  services that are in addition to any services provided in
     8  accordance with the provisions of section 922.1-A and such funds
     9  shall be in addition to those distributed in accordance with the
    10  provisions of section 922.1-A(d).

    12     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
