                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
     2     act relating to the public school system, including certain
     3     provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
     4     schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
     5     laws relating thereto," providing for parents' advisory
     6     committees.

     7     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     8  hereby enacts as follows:
     9     Section 1.  The act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), known
    10  as the Public School Code of 1949, is amended by adding a
    11  section to read:
    12     Section 528.  Parents' Advisory Committee.--(a)  The board of
    13  school directors of each district shall establish a parents'
    14  advisory committee. The purpose of the advisory committee shall
    15  be to serve as a vehicle by which parents communicate directly
    16  with the board of school directors to resolve school-related
    17  issues. As such, a representative of the committee shall be
    18  recognized by the board at each public board meeting for the


     1  purpose of presenting remarks. An affirmative vote of the
     2  members of the board of school directors shall not be required
     3  to establish a parents' advisory committee. For purposes of this
     4  section, a parents' advisory committee shall not be considered
     5  an additional department requiring a majority vote for
     6  establishment pursuant to section 508 of this act.
     7     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
