                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 42 (Judiciary and Judicial Procedure) of the
     2     Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, providing for exemption
     3     from jury duty for certain elected officials.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Title 42 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     7  Statutes is amended by adding a section to read:
     8  § 4504.  Elected officials exempt from jury duty.
     9     (a)  General rule.--Notwithstanding any other provision of
    10  law, no elected official of the legislative branch of the
    11  Commonwealth shall be required to serve on an investigating
    12  grand or petit jury, convened by any court of this Commonwealth,
    13  whether such service is requested by judicial summons or by some
    14  other means of compulsion.
    15     (b)  Definition.--As used in this section, the term "elected
    16  official of the legislative branch" means each member of the
    17  Senate and the House of Representatives.
    18     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
