AN ACT

Designating the interchange at Exit 48 of Interstate 79 in

2

Washington County as the Purple Heart Interchange.

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

4

hereby enacts as follows:

5

Section 1.  The Purple Heart Interchange.

(a)  Declaration of policy.-–The General Assembly finds and

7

declares as follows:

(1)  The Purple Heart is awarded, in the name of the

9

President of the United States, to any member of the armed

10

forces who has been wounded or killed while serving, on or

11

after April 5, 1917, with the United States Armed Forces.

(2)  In 2005, The United States Department of Veterans

13

Affairs established the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies,

14

which is located in close proximity to Exit 48 (Southpointe)

15

of Interstate 79 in Washington County.

(b)  Designation.--Exit 48 (Southpointe) of Interstate 79 in

Washington County, in both directions, is hereby designated as

2

the Purple Heart Interchange.

(c)  Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall, in

4

appropriate locations, erect and maintain signs displaying the

5

name designated under subsection (b).

Section 2.  Effective date.

7

This act shall take effect in 60 days.
