                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of May 11, 1925 (P.L.561), entitled, as
     2     amended, "An act to provide for the selection of jurors to
     3     serve in the several courts, criminal and civil, of counties
     4     of the second and second A class, and defining the
     5     qualifications of such jurors; providing for the organization
     6     of a commission for the selection of jurors in such counties,
     7     and prescribing its powers and duties, and authorizing it to
     8     investigate as to the qualifications of prospective jurors;
     9     imposing the expense of maintaining and operating said
    10     commission upon said counties, and requiring the county
    11     commissioners to provide suitable quarters, equipment, and
    12     supplies; authorizing the employment of the necessary clerks
    13     and other employes, and providing for a salary board composed
    14     of the commission, the county commissioners, and the
    15     controller of said counties, to fix the number and
    16     compensation of such employes; requiring county officers and
    17     boards to furnish information to said commission concerning
    18     taxables resident in said county as to their eligibility for
    19     jury service; repealing inconsistent legislation; and
    20     prescribing punishment for the violation hereof," reducing
    21     certain age requirements.

    22     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
    23  hereby enacts as follows:
    24     Section 1.  Clause (a) of section 9, act of May 11, 1925
    25  (P.L.561), entitled, as amended, "An act to provide for the
    26  selection of jurors to serve in the several courts, criminal and
    27  civil, of counties of the second and second A class, and
    28  defining the qualifications of such jurors; providing for the

     1  organization of a commission for the selection of jurors in such
     2  counties, and prescribing its powers and duties, and authorizing
     3  it to investigate as to the qualifications of prospective
     4  jurors; imposing the expense of maintaining and operating said
     5  commission upon said counties, and requiring the county
     6  commissioners to provide suitable quarters, equipment, and
     7  supplies; authorizing the employment of the necessary clerks and
     8  other employes, and providing for a salary board composed of the
     9  commission, the county commissioners, and the controller of said
    10  counties, to fix the number and compensation of such employes;
    11  requiring county officers and boards to furnish information to
    12  said commission concerning taxables resident in said county as
    13  to their eligibility for jury service; repealing inconsistent
    14  legislation; and prescribing punishment for the violation
    15  hereof," amended April 7, 1927 (P.L.172), is amended to read:
    16     Section 9.  After procuring the indicated number of names, as
    17  in the last preceding section provided, the commission, through
    18  its members or its duly authorized employes, shall ascertain
    19  whether or not those whose names have been selected are
    20  qualified for jury service; and such qualifications are hereby
    21  defined as follows, to wit:
    22     (a)  He or she shall be an American citizen not less than
    23  [twenty-one] eighteen years of age, taxed, and residing in the
    24  respective county.
