AN ACT
1 Amending the act of July 22, 1913 (P.L.928, No.441), entitled
2 "An act relating to domestic animals; defining domestic
3 animals so as to include poultry; providing methods of
4 improving the quality thereof, and of preventing,
5 controlling, and eradicating diseases thereof; imposing
6 certain duties upon practitioners of veterinary medicine in
7 Pennsylvania; regulating the manufacture, use and sale of
8 tuberculin, mallein and other biological products for use
9 with domestic animals; defining the powers and duties of the
10 State Livestock Sanitary Board, and the officers and
11 employees thereof; fixing the compensation of the Deputy
12 State Veterinarian; and providing penalties for the violation
13 of this act," further providing for the definition of
14 "domestic animal" and for the expense of feeding and watering
15 animals placed in quarantine; and making an editorial change.
16 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
17 hereby enacts as follows:
18 Section 1. Sections 1 and 19 of the act of July 22, 1913
19 (P.L.928, No.441), referred to as the Domestic Animal Disease
20 Suppression Law, are amended to read:
21 Section 1. Be it enacted, &c., That the words "domestic
22 animal," as used in this act, shall mean any equine animal or
23 bovine animal, sheep, goat, pig, dog, cat, domesticated rabbit
1 or poultry; and shall be taken to include the singular or plural 2 as may be necessary in any given case. 3 Section 19. Animals that shall be placed in quarantine by 4 the authority of the [State Livestock Sanitary Board, or any 5 member, officer, agent, or employee of the same,] Department of 6 Agriculture shall be provided with suitable quarters, and fed 7 and watered [by or] at the expense of the [owner] Commonwealth. 8 [In default of payment by such owner of the expense of providing 9 suitable quarters and of feeding and watering any of such 10 animals within ten days after the lifting of said quarantine, 11 the State Livestock Sanitary Board may sell any such animal at 12 public sale, to collect such expense. Any surplus received at 13 said sale, over the expense aforesaid, shall be paid to such 14 owner. No animal shall be removed from a quarantined area until 15 such sale, except upon payment of such expense.] 16 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days. H12L03WMB/19850H1638B2090 - 2 -
