A RESOLUTION

 

1Designating the week of April 6 through 12, 2014, as the "Week
2of the Young Child" in Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, The National Association for the Education of Young
4Children (NAEYC) draws attention to how high-quality early
5childhood experiences in the first few years of a child's life
6can provide a path for success in school and life; and

7WHEREAS, The NAEYC offers tips so that parents are able to
8choose a high-quality program for their child; and

9WHEREAS, The NAEYC encourages limited group sizes so that
10teachers are able to build strong bonds with babies and
11toddlers; and

12WHEREAS, Teachers show warmth and support by making eye
13contact, talking, reading and singing to the child; and

14WHEREAS, Teachers pay close attention to baby and toddler
15cues because teachers recognize that the child is unable to
16communicate all their needs through language; and

1WHEREAS, Teachers follow health and safety standards to limit
2the spread of infectious diseases and can see and hear infants
3at all times; and

4WHEREAS, Teachers become good examples for children by
5displaying kindness and respect for others while encouraging
6language skills so that toddlers can express their wants and
7needs with words; and

8WHEREAS, Teachers encourage all toddlers, including ones with
9physical disabilities, to participate in safe environments that
10engage toddlers in everyday routines such as eating, toileting
11and dressing so that children can learn new skills and better
12control their own behavior; and

13WHEREAS, Preschool children have wide-ranging individual
14development plans that are not too easy so that they are boring
15and not too hard so that they are frustrating; and

16WHEREAS, Teachers encourage preschool children to play,
17explore and connect past experiences with current interests;
18therefore be it

19RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
20week of April 6 through 12, 2014, as the "Week of the Young
21Child" in Pennsylvania.
