                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 18 (Crimes and Offenses) of the Pennsylvania
     2     Consolidated Statutes, by making it illegal to assault a
     3     security officer.

     4     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     5  hereby enacts as follows:
     6     Section 1.  Paragraphs (2) and (3) of subsection (a) of
     7  section 2702 of Title 18, act of November 25, 1970 (P.L.707,
     8  No.230), known as the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes,
     9  amended October 1, 1980 (No.139) and October 16, 1980 (No.167),
    10  are amended to read:
    11  § 2702.  Aggravated assault.
    12     (a)  Offense defined.--A person is guilty of aggravated
    13  assault if he:

    15         (2)  attempts to cause or intentionally, knowingly or
    16     recklessly causes serious bodily injury to a police officer
    17     making or attempting to make a lawful arrest, or to an


     1     operator of a vehicle used in public transportation while
     2     operating such a vehicle or to a security officer while in
     3     the performance of his duties;
     4         (3)  attempts to cause or intentionally or knowingly
     5     causes bodily injury to a police officer making or attempting
     6     to make a lawful arrest or to a security officer while in the
     7     performance of his duties;

     9     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
